The Kennet Accordion Orchestra has had a busy couple of months, starting with competing at the New Milton Music Festival in March.  They played ‘Think of Me’ from Phantom of the Opera by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and 'Carpenters Forever' in the mixed ability section and also in the advanced section playing ‘Coronation March’ by Meyerbeer and ‘Simon & Garfunkel in Concert’.  They were awarded honours for both sections and also performed in the Performance Platform, which was a new section introduced this year.  This rounded off the afternoon.  Earlier in the afternoon, Helen Newton performed the solo ‘Mariouska’ and also joined Nigel in two duets, ‘Dantesque’ and ‘Palladio’; both sections were won with honours.  This music festival is thriving with Jill Martin doing a good job of keeping the accordion sections going. Colin Whitfield was the adjudicator and encouraged all participants to keep practising and enjoying playing the accordion.

The middle of May saw the Kennet Accordion Orchestra travelling to Bournemouth for a ‘holiday’ weekend.  They performed at All Saints Church hall, Southbourne on the Saturday at lunchtime and again on Sunday at the Pine Walk Bandstand in the winter gardens Bournemouth. The sun shone and the crowds enjoyed the varied programme of music. All in all, a good, fun weekend, enjoyed by all who attended.

On Friday 17thMay, the orchestra were again asked to play at the lovely Chilton Foliat Village Hall, near Hungerford, this time with a 40s themed evening.  They decorated the hall and dressed up for the occasion.  The photo will show you!  A packed hall enjoyed the music and agreed that it was one of the best concerts that the orchestra had played at this venue, both musically and for the entertainment value too! The evening raised much-needed funds for on-going repairs to the village hall and kind donation to the orchestra expenses.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our followers and supporters for your encouragement and friendship.
