New Milton Music Festival 2017

The Orchestra recently competed in the accordion section of the New Milton Music Festival.

The Adjudicator, Collin Whitfield, is highly respected in the UK accordion movement. Helen Newton was awarded a Distinction for her performance of "Marika" in the Advanced Solo Section. This performance was dedicated to the late Adrienne Griffiths.

For their performance in the Advanced Duet section Nigel Pasby and Helen Newton achieved an Honours award. "Spring Magic", one of the two pieces played, was also in memory of Adrienne who had performed this piece at a previous Festival with Valerie Antell. Valerie was at New Milton and was able to listen to Nigel and Helen's performance.

In the Advanced Orchestra Section, the Orchestra played Nigel's arrangement of Franz Von Suppe's "Morning Noon and Night in Vienna". This resulted in an Honours award with very favourable comments from the adjudicator.

The Orchestra achieved a Distinction for two more arrangements by Nigel. These being "Rock en Stock" and "The Eve of the war, from War of the Worlds"

Collin Whitfield said that he enjoyed watching the enthusiasm of Nigel conducting the Orchestra!

The festival Organisers donated a memorial trophy in memory of Adrienne. This was presented by her daughter Barbara.
